Barbara's love for gospel music goes as far back as early childhood: baptism at age four and Sunday School programs at Hollywood Presbyterian Church in California. She remembers asking the Lord when she was nine if she was to become a missionary and go to Africa. He spoke to her heart in his still small voice, "Sing praises."
During her work in Country and Pop music Barbara kept her choir work at the Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasedena, California. She performed "St. John's Passion" by Bach at the San Francisco Opera House. In the1980's she moved to the Middle Tennessee area and began singing at the Bellview Presbyterian Church in Franklin. By 1985 she became a member of the Franklin First Baptist Church, and was baptized again as a mature adult. Since that time has sung in many capacities for her church from solo to choir member.
In 1990 and 1991 Barbara went to the Gospel Music Association's seminars for soloists. She performed live at The Tennessee Performing Arts Theater as background group for Steven Curtis Chapman on the song, "For The Sake Of The Call." Barbara sang on the recording "The Song" with David Clydesdale on Diadem Records. Recently she appeared on "Nashville Gospel" on Nashville's Channel 4 and sang two of the songs from this album - "Love One Another." Other gospel projects that she has been involved in are: "Sunday Mornin' Country" on TNN, the church services for "Fan Fair," singing in the Country Chorale for Hee Haw's Joe Babcock, and singing background for Hoyt Axton and other country music stars. Barbara's gospel recording has continued along with her pop career. She can be seen in the production of "The Gospel According To Scrooge" and Christmas productions for the last several years at the First Baptist Church in Franklin. She has recorded in "Themes for Worship" Volumes 1 thru 6 at RCA Studio B., "Attitudes of Praise" at Bradley's Barn by The Benson Company, and "The People's Church Praise" Volume 1,2, &3. Her original gospel songs have been chosen for use by T. Bone Burnett producer for Word®, Roy Orbison, Elvis Costello, to name a few. She was requested to be on a project with T. Bone in Los Angeles for Word Music, but was unable to make the move. Her husband, Donivan, has a long-standing and successful career in country music and they just could not make the move at this time.
